Lost Sheep

2019, video, 7:30 minutes
Produced at the 26th European Film Festival Palić, Subotica, Serbia
resident artist, experimental cinema

An androgynous blond(e) figure meanders in frantic stop-motion zig-zag around a sun-baked wheat-field; there are glints of horror in the protagonist’s eyes, as if s/he were being chased by someone… or something. Quickly rushing through noisily reverberant corn rows, the full form of the figure is gradually revealed. Kopilović’s crisp digital photography follows the protagonist closely, rapidly navigating a landscape of saturated green and yellow colours. We eventually arrive at a puddle of mud, and now an ecstatic transformation begins. Covering the bare body with mud, limbs are revived: a magic potion, an empowered embalming. This powerful queer performance does not shy away from revealing all: closing on the serene sunset over the plains of Vojvodina, the exposed body rests exhausted in the middle of the field; a blissful unity of fragile innocence amid the roughness of nature.

Go Deeper

2019, video, 7 minutes, English
Produced for Changing Climates - An Exhibition Of Reflection
University of Skövde, The Seed Box and Marinmuseum, Karlskrona, Sweden

The distortions of our gaze towards nature are generated in interactions that are increasingly mediated by technology. This idealized nature is explored in this video that takes the form of a guided audio meditation, further troubling contemporary romanticism around the topics of empathy, media, and environmentalism. This meditation can either be a path for discovery or fragment our human nature divide into a blurred, liquid image.
Made in collaboration with Rebecca Rouse and narrated by Brendan Padgett.

Diffraction

I bring you some water lost in your memory, solo exhibition, Kresge Arts Center, East Lansing, Michigan, USA

The moving image is flexible and fluid, like water and light, it is all-embracing and ultimately formless. The materials of water, light, and digital media join forces here to push queer narratives and their boundaries into self-proposals, more entangled with the matter that make us matter.
Sound created in collaboration with Matias Brimmer.

Pretexto Performance

2015, series of performance programs and videos
Pretexto Performance, SESC Institute, Joinville, Brazil
resident artist in performance and video

This performance and video experiment explores how performance art reflects the times, situations and spaces it is created in, and how it can persist within its residues and documentation. A group of artists utilized the SESC galleries and its surroundings in the city of Joinville as an experimental, collective laboratory, with the common interest of pushing the limits of performance and intermedia practices. Video artist Marcos Serafim created a series of experimental videos documenting the process and interfering in the performative environment.
