semipermeable [a risk taker inquiry]

2024, video, 4K, 40 minutes, Spanish/English

Karl Marx’s 1880 A Workers' Inquiry—a 101-question survey—was less a data-gathering tool than a tactical intervention against the alienation of French workers, aimed at exposing the exploitative conditions of capitalist production. Drawing on Marx’s recognition of health as a fundamental right, this project reimagines his inquiry in the context of the current HIV crisis in the US-Mexico borderlands. The adapted survey is presented through a series of AI-generated fictive interviews, derived from video recordings of invited participants.
